Lanvin '08

I'm loving the Lanvin fall 08 collection right now. It was designed by Alber Elbaz and I think it showcases current European style well right now. Mr Elbaz said about his collection that the clothes change depending on who wears them, and different women fill them differently. He focused his collection on individualism. I love the dramatic looks and it almost seems dominatrix-y to me, but at the same time wearable. His collection is flowing and different from what he usually does (which is soft, romantic clothing). The clothes all respect womens' curves and are form fitting, but not clingy. I could honestly see myself wearing everything in this show.To see more check out the full collection. What do you think about it?

Bandeau- Top Bikinis

I adore bandeau style bikini tops. I think they are ultra flattering on every body type, unlike other types of bikinis. For some reason, they are oft overlooked. I love this one by Heidi Klein, available here. If you can't shell out $235 for a bikini , I suggest this cheaper alternative from the Gap. It looks super cute

My Love Affair with Marc Jacobs

Oh, how I love these shoes. We're eloping.

Then there's also my affair with Oscar. What's a girl to do?

Signs and Symbols
I love Vladimir Nabokov. His Lolita is one of my favorite books . Vanity Fair called it “The only convincing love story of our century.”
Quick Summary
Humbert Humbert is a European intellectual adrift in America, haunted by memories of a lost adolescent love. When he meets his ideal nymphet in the shape of 12-year-old Dolores Haze, he constructs an elaborate plot to seduce her, but first he must get rid of her mother. In spite of his diabolical wit, reality proves to be more slippery than Humbert's feverish fantasies, and Lolita refuses to conform to his image of the perfect lover. (Summary taken from Amazon.com)
Isn't that an amazingly witty review from Vanity Fair?
I just recently read the short story Signs and Symbols by Nabokov and I suggest everyone read it. It's a quick read. You can find it here.

Decorating Idea: Using vintage trunks

What a cute idea! This is the jewelry designer, Emma Cassi's, living room. I love how she used a vintage looking trunk as a coffee table; I see these all the time at my local thrift store, and now I know how to use them!

Welcome! & How to be Fabulous

Well, because this blog is titled Absolutely Fabulous, I thought I'd start out with a

- Wear heels as much as possible, but love being able to kick them off.
- Know when to be selfless and when to be selfish. Be selfless: volunteer your time with local charities, listen to your heartbroken friend rehash her breakup for the sixtieth time, always help your friends move, skip lunch and give your sandwich to the homeless man on the street. Be selfish: eat the last cupcake, sleep until noon, spend the extra money on a silk nightgown, refuse to wash the dishes for two days because you don't want to chip your manicure. ( I took this one verbatim from chicandcharming.com) So true!
- Become well read, some authors and poets I recommend are Charles Baudelaire, Robert Frost, Pablo Neruda (poets); Isabel Allende, Gabriel García Marquez, Jane Austen, Ayn Rand, Junot Díaz, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ken Kesey, and Victor Hugo
- Entertain Often and Stylishly, be able to mix drinks, become a good hostess, be able to mingle
- Send thank you letters and have trademark stationary.
- Be Gracious and take compliments well
- Smile often, it’s good for you (oh, and be sure to have white teeth, I highly recommend crest whitestrips)
- Wear a silk or satin slip to bed and a Sleep Mask, I love these: Slip in indigo reef and Sleep Mask similar to Holly Golightly's in Breakfast at Tiffany's
- Remember people’s names and a little bit about them so that the next time you see them they will be pleasantly surprised
- Try to remain cheerful and live in the now, stop worrying about the future.
- Celebrate for any and all reasons, if it’s a Monday, if you just got a new job, you need little excuse.
- Be able to carry a conversation
- Keep up with trends, but establish your own style. I find it is good to have an icon (mine is one of my friends) and whenever I shop, I ask myself, “Would my friend wear this). Trust me, it helps a lot.
- Be confident and embrace your body.
- Give meaningful and sincere compliments
- Be well rounded so you can converse with people different than yourself.
- Be Spontaneous
